Welcome & Important Information
Welcome to the GPS 4 Your Career Land A Great Job in 90 Days Bootcamp! You have made several important decisions by signing up for this course.
- First, you are taking control of your career and job search. This is a critical first step and one that many people never take. A company does not own you or your career – you OWN your career!
- Second, you are committing to following the program and doing the work. This takes a strong desire and ability to learn and make changes. CONGRATULATIONS!
- Third, by simply doing something different, you are changing the way you approach your job search and stepping out of your comfort zone. Since what you’ve been doing to date has not been working this is a critical step into something new that will work.
Here are some keys to being successful in this program:
1) Set aside 2-4 hours each day to complete your day’s work. This includes
- Watching the webinar (or listening and following along with the provided materials)
- Completing the homework
- Listing your questions for the weekly Q&A calls
- Putting the work into practice
2) Homework: Each day you will have some work to do. For example, when you learn about effective resumes you will want to take a fresh look at your own resume and decide what changes to make. Most days your homework will take about 2 hours – some people may get finished sooner and others may take longer. So be sure to allow yourself enough time to be effective. Also, some of the steps need to be done before you move on to other steps so it’s important to set aside time daily.
3) Weekly Calls: Each week I’ll take 2-3 volunteers for individual coaching sessions. Each session will be approximately 15 minutes and will require you to complete a questionnaire and provide documentation prior to the call. For example, if you want me to review your resume I would need to see it in advance. We will also allow 15-30 minutes for questions on a first-come first-served basis. You will have the opportunity to email your questions in prior to the call if you prefer and I will answer some emailed questions. These sessions will be held on Friday mornings.
4) What you learn in each session is only valuable if you put it to work. For example, networking requires you to actually make contact with people, attend groups, or take advantage of other opportunities. These may challenge your comfort zone. Please remember – every job seeker attends a networking meeting for the first time. Every job seeker contacts people on LinkedIn for the first time. Just like you will have a first day on your new job but after the first day, the first week, the first month, it gets easier and easier.
Remember, we are here to support you. You’ll have the chance to sit in the Hot Job Seat, sign up for a low-cost 1:1 coaching session, ask questions on the open call-in lines, and other opportunities will present themselves as we move through the program. Our goal is to get you (and 499 other people) back to work in the next 90 days!
